Granville Honored with International Award

The Columbus Council on World Affairs (CCWA) has announced their International Education Honorees of the Year. Both schools were early adopters of the CCWA’s Global Scholars Diploma (GSD) program. These schools received their awards during CCWA’s 12th Annual International Awards Ceremony at the Hilton in downtown Columbus.

Columbus North International School and Granville High School implemented CCWA’s GSD program into their curriculum when it first launched in the fall of 2013. Currently, there are 89 Granville High School students and 35 Columbus North International School students enrolled in the program.

“Granville and Columbus North are innovators and leaders in Central Ohio's march toward global education,” said Patrick Terrien, President and CEO, Columbus Council on World Affairs. “These schools identified the need for their students to be globally competent for both college and career preparation and took immediate action. Other schools and districts are now following suit because of the success of their efforts."

Granville is one of the state’s most respected and innovative districts, and enthusiastically adopted the GSD program from the beginning.

“We are proud to offer the Global Scholars Diploma program to our students,” said Matt Durst, principal of Granville High School. “Our mission is to provide our students with superior educational experiences, so our school continues to innovate and build on the GSD program with the addition of a new global issues course and robust student travel opportunities. Our ultimate goal is to help prepare our students for the world of tomorrow, today.”
